LOS ANGELES, California, March 7, 2025 – PlayStation fans have another reason to celebrate, as Sony announced an impressive limited edition dual-way driver inspired by The Last of Us franchise. This exclusive controller will be available for purchase from 10 April, with pre-orders opening on 14 March at 10 am local time. Priced at $85, the controller will be sold by PlayStation Direct and select retailers in limited quantities.
A tribute to an iconic franchise
Designed in collaboration with Naughty Dog’s creative team, this double-sense limited edition controller has a striking black and white pattern, with a complex artwork that pays tribute to the key elements of Part I and Part II. The top half of the controller, including the face buttons and the D-pad, ends in black, while the bottom, including analog sticks, is a star target.
Among the most remarkable design elements are three symbolic images: a light, a moth and a wolf. They represent the main themes and characters of the franchise: the Fireflies faction of Part I, and the deep link between Ellie and Abby in Part II. Naughty Dog’s Head of Creative, Neil Druckmann, stressed the importance of these details:
“We wanted to make sure that the two deliveries of The Last of Us are represented, through trophy icons printed in black shrapnel through the control body. Among them, the sprayed logo by Fireflies, the butterfly and the wolf are immediately distinguished by the fans.”
Limited availability: Where and when to buy
The Last of Us DualSense controller will be available for pre-order from 10am local time on March 14th through PlayStation Direct and participating retailers. Fans must act quickly, as the DualSense limited edition drivers, such as Spider-Man and God of War, are quickly exhausted.
According to PlayStation, customers who order directly from PlayStation Direct in certain regions, including the United States, the United Kingdom and several European countries, will receive free delivery of the launch days. However, availability may vary by country.
How does this compare to other dual-way limited edition drivers?
Sony has launched several DualSense thematic controllers in the past, including those inspired by Astro Bot, Spider-Man, God of War and Helldivers 2. Although most of these models are no longer available, the Helldivers 2 and Fortnite drivers are still available for $85. The edition of The Last of Us, however, is distinguished by its unique artistic design, which refers directly to the moments and factions of the franchise.
Beyond the controller: More ways to celebrate the last of us
For fans who want to dive more into the world of The Last of Us, several other products hit the market. HBO’s second season of adaptation is scheduled for April 13, 2025, offering a new grip on Joel and Ellie’s emotional journey. In addition, a PC version of The Last of Us Part II Remastered was released on April 3, 2025, through Steam and the epic gaming store.
For collectors, a limited edition steel book from The Last of Us Season 1, with a remastered 4K version of the series, is currently available to preorder at $38 (originally $50). Those looking to expand their game collection can also capture physical copies of The Last Part of Us for $50 and The last part II Remastered for $38 in Walmart.
Will it be a collection item?
Given the limited edition drivers’ trajectory of PlayStation, the Last of Us DualSense is likely to become a sought after collector’s item. With its complex design, deep connection to the franchise lora and limited availability, fans who manage to secure one could cling to a precious piece of the game’s history.
As precomputers are open on March 14, fans must be ready to act quickly, as demand is expected to be high. Whether you are a fan of the Ultimate of Us or simply looking for a highly designed controller, this latest PlayStation offer is meant to make a statement.
