TOKYO (Japan), March 7, 2025 – Honda officially unveiled a bike concept inspired by Koraidon, the Pokémon as a dragon that appears in Pokémon Scarlet. The natural-sized replica, created in collaboration with The Pokémon Company, will be exhibited at the Honda Welcome Plaza Aoyama in Tokyo from March 7 to 9, 2025. This marks the second collaboration on Pokémon motorcycles, following the Miraidon project inspired by Toyota last year.
What is the Honda Koraidon doing?
The Honda Koraidon is not only a static replica, it has mobile parts designed to mimic Pokémon’s game behavior. The hands, feet, neck, eyes and facial characteristics of the bike encourage as it is, leading Koraidon to life in a way never seen before in a real world vehicle. According to Honda, this design aims to recreate the immersive riding experience in Koraidon in the world of Pokémon, where the creature serves as much as a mode of transport and a partner throughout the game.
Is this the Honda Koraidon functional bike?
Despite its realistic design, the Honda Koraidon is a concept and not a fully operational vehicle. According to Honda’s statement, the project aims to accurately reproduce the size, weight and movement of Koraidon rather than develop an illegal street bike. However, the model shows Honda’s advanced self-balancing technology, first introduced in CES 2017 under the Honda Riding Assist system. This feature allows the bike to stand without the need for a kick stand, adding to its futuristic appeal.
Why does Honda create a Pokémon bike?
The project is part of a broader initiative to inspire the younger generation and celebrate Japanese crafts. According to Honda, the Koraidon project is aligned with its vision of “monozukuri” (the art of doing things), with the aim of combining technical innovation and childish imagination. The Pokémon franchise, which celebrated its 29th anniversary on February 27, remains a cultural phenomenon, and collaborations like this one help bridge the gap between fantasy and real-world engineering.
How does this compare to Toyota’s Miraidon motorcycle?
In 2024, the Toyota’s Engineering Society created the Toyota Miraidon, a motorcycle designed after Miraidon, equivalent to Pokémon Violet’s Koraidon. The Honda Koraidon The project is based on this concept, but it incorporates an additional mechanical movement to improve realism. While no bike is functional for road use, both serve as evidence of the creativity and technical experience of large Japanese automobile companies.
What will happen to the Koraidon bike after the exhibition?
Honda has not yet revealed its future plans for the Koraidon motorcycle after the end of its viewing period on March 9. However, the bike can be transferred to one of the Pokémon Center stores in Japan, which often have large statues of Pokémon and souvenirs. Given the high level of interest in the project, there is also speculation that it could be demonstrated at future games or automobile events.
What other Pokémon projects were announced this year?
The deployment of the Koraidon motorcycle coincides with several Pokémon related announcements made during the Pokémon Presents livestram on February 27. These include:
- The return of Pokémon Concierge with new episodes.
- The announcement of Pokémon Champions, a brand-new game in development.
- New details on Pokémon Legends: Z-A, an upcoming game for the Nintendo Switch slated for release later this year.
With these announcements and Honda’s collaboration, 2025 is formed to be an exciting year for Pokémon fans and automotive enthusiasts.
