PARIS (France), March 7, 2025 – Editor Nacon and developed Big Bad Wolf Studio officially revealed their next horrible adventure game Lovecraftian, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss, which will be launched in 2026. This first-person psychological thriller, led by Unreal Engine 5, promises an immersive experience that combines research horror, puzzle resolution and health challenge game. According to the Nacon announcement, the game will be available in PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X vidasS and PC via Steam.
What is Cthulhu: The cosmic abyss?
Located in 2053, the game takes players to a world where hidden phenomena become disturbing. Earth’s surface resources are exhausting, pushing powerful companies to search for unexploited reserves under the ocean. However, his deep explorations wake up without experiencing an old horror of his dream. Players take on the role of Noah, a researcher who works for Elder, a secret division of Interpol that specializes in supernatural threats. His mission: to discover the truth behind the disappearance of a group of miners in the Pacific Ocean. But as he deepens the labyrintic ruins of R’lyeh, the legendary prison submerged in Cthulhu, Noah must fight both physical threats and madness that threaten his mental health.
A deep atmospheric experience
According to Big Bad Wolf Studio, Cthulhu: The Cosmic Abyss will present a new take on the myths of H.P. Lovecraft, mixing futuristic elements with cosmic horror. Game environments challenge the laws of physics, with a changing and disoriented visual architecture designed for players. As for Nacon, any descent to R’lyeh will prove Noah’s perception of reality, for his spirit gradually succumbs to the insidious influence of Cthulhu. Players must find a delicate balance between discovering the mystery and maintaining their mental health.
Mechanical Game: Research, Puzzles and Health Management
Cthulhu: The cosmic abyss concerns not only survival, but the discovery of truth. Players will trust their AI partner, Key, to analyze clues, interpret cryptic messages and guide them through the ever-changing R’lyeh corridors. According to the developers, the game will have a connection story, with options that have a significant impact on the result of the story. Like the classics of research terror like Amnesia and Outlast, the game introduces a health mechanic: prolonged exposure to the presence of Cthulhu can distort Noah’s senses, causing hallucinations and changing the game in an unpredictable way.
Comparison with Horror Classics
Fans of psychological horror will probably make comparisons with titles like Vampire: The Masquerade – Swansong and The Council, both developed by Big Bad Wolf Studio. However, the cosmic abyss seems to bow more strongly into the elements of horror. According to PCGamesN, the trailer reveals strange environments, encrypted texts, and an impressive view of Cthulhu himself, a frightening reminder of the psychological horror of high performance of the game.
First Glimpse in the story of the game
The ad trailer, presented during Nacon Connect, offers a brief but disturbing look at Noah’s journey. In a sequence, he acquires a mysterious toma in an illuminated cabin before apparently being transported to the depths of the ocean. Another scene instills the changing architecture of R’lyeh, where the contortion of the walls and doors disappear as the players advance. As Push Square said, the story of the game will be deeply filmed, players immersed in a night search where each step forward reveals deeper horrors.
When Cthulhu: Is the cosmic abyss liberated?
Nacon confirmed that Cthulhu: The cosmic abyss will be launched in 2026, although an exact launch date has not yet been announced. The game is currently available for Steam Wish List, with additional game details that should be revealed later this year. While horror fans look forward to their arrival, the cosmic abyss seeks to offer a unique and disturbing experience that pushes the limits of investigative horror.
