AT&T Launches Free Internet Backup Feature for Fiber Customers
DALLAS, Dec. 2, 2024 — AT&T has unveiled its Internet Backup feature, a new solution that ensures seamless connectivity by leveraging the company’s wireless network during fiber service disruptions. This feature is available at no additional cost to customers who use eligible AT&T Fiber and wireless plans, underscoring AT&T’s leadership in integrating wireless and fiber technologies.
The Internet backup uses the AT & AMP link; T BGW320 to automatically change cell connectivity if the fiber service is not available. Once the fibers are restored, the system returns to its original state without any manual intervention. According to Erin Scarborough, main vice president of Product Management at AT & AMP; T, this offer eliminates the need for additional equipment or wireless plans, aligning with the client’s client approach. “In AT & AMP; T, the Internet backup was designed with the client in the center,” said Scarborough.
Activation is straightforward, requiring just four taps through the AT&T Smart Home Manager app. Customers will receive a notification when their gateway is updated and eligible for the feature. The setup process ensures that wireless service remains active during outages, with no time limits or extra fees. This provides peace of mind for users who depend on reliable internet for remote work, online education, and digital entertainment.
AT&T’s fiber network boasts over 99.9% reliability, supported by one of the nation’s largest wireless coverages. This convergence of fiber and 5G technology strengthens AT&T’s position as a market leader in providing comprehensive connectivity solutions. Approximately 40% of AT&T Fiber households also subscribe to AT&T wireless services, showcasing the synergy between the two offerings.
This launch reflects AT&T’s strategy of leveraging its extensive infrastructure to enhance customer experience. By integrating fiber and wireless capabilities, the company is addressing growing demands for dependable and uninterrupted internet access. Customers who do not yet have the BGW320 gateway will receive notifications through the Smart Home Manager app when eligible to upgrade, ensuring accessibility across AT&T’s fiber footprint.
As digital connectivity becomes increasingly critical, innovations like Internet Backup highlight AT&T’s commitment to maintaining reliable service for millions of users. This feature is part of AT&T’s broader mission to expand its connectivity portfolio and continue setting benchmarks in the telecommunications industry.
